One More Day

Only because it's a leap year.  I must say, I'm always a little relieved when February is over.  Spring is on the horizon and the weather starts to get a little more manageable.  It's no different here.  Apparently it was warmer today, but since we had a jammy day, we didn't get to experience it personally.

We did venture out yesterday, first to Ole for groceries then to Jessica's for a visit.  We had a nice time with her, Yan Hong and the boys.  I took a ton of material over and described to Yan Hong what I wanted made.  Luckily most of it was pretty simple for her - cashmere wraps and scarves.  The dress was a little trickier and we decided I should print off a picture or two.  Unfortunately for Yan Hong she is dealing with the fashionably challenged here so I'm not much help.  I told her for most of it she should just use her best judgement.

After a pancake lunch and some play time the boys and I came home to get supper ready for guests.  Sonny and Sue were away for a week to an island called Hainan, in the south of China, and we were keen to hear all about their trip.  They brought pictures and it looks beautiful.  We had considered going there before we booked Thailand but decided against it, not so much because it didn't look appealing but because we wanted to see something outside of China.  You know, get the stamp in the passport.  Anyway, we had a lovely supper and after viewing the Hainan pictures on the television, Sonny put on some of Nova Scotia.  Sue and Sonny are from the US but while working in Bridgewater a few years ago, they took a motorcycle trip to Cape Breton and around the Cabot Trail.  The photos made me a little nostalgic for green trees, dark blue water, and clean, fresh air.

Since the kids were up late last night, they were a little sluggish this morning, as was I.  The cold is hanging on and I ended up sleeping in Ryan's room for half the night while he stayed in our bed with Tim.  My coughing was keeping people up.  We didn't do much this morning but the afternoon was a little more productive.  I opened up the barber shop and gave both boys a trim.  I don't want them getting too hot in the 30 degree weather of Koh Samui.  I also had a nice massage and bath afterward.  All in all, a lazy but good day.

Tomorrow it's supposed to be a little warmer again so we will likely get out somewhere.  It will be really nice when they stop burning coal and the air can clear up a little.  When we get back from Thailand I'm going to buy a bike so Nick and I can go on some tours in the park.  Hopefully it will be nice enough by then!

  1. Jan, I just looked at Anna's pictures from your last post, they are wonderful, she does a good job. Really loved the pictures of you and Tim.
It was great talking to you and the boys yesterday, It doesn't seem to be that long ago that you were home.
Good idea to buy yourself a bike, I think Nick and Ryan both will enjoy having someone to cycle with.
We had a change of plans this morning and the boys are here. They cancelled school, but Tracy was able to get to work so she thought it would be better to save her overtime. I put them outside to do some shoveling and they are going on the ice after lunch. Stevie is on night shift so he will take them home when they come off the ice. We didn't have any wind with they snow and I don't think we got as much snow as they said we would. I am going to take the rest of the day and read!!!! (and nap).
Hope you are feeling better and get rid of that cold before you go away.
Have a great day, take care.

  2. I have been wanting to get a bike too so I can ride with the kids, but I would still need to get one with a seat for Natalee, or a pull behind trailer thing. We go camping alot and I think if Matt and I both had bikes we could go off riding much more.

I can't wait to see photos from your trip. My brother has been to Thailand several times (he's a Marine) and he loved each stay there. Matt (hubby) did all his Marine deployments in Europe, so having Matthew (brother) do the "westpac" areas has been nice.

  3. This is March 5 that I am writing this and we had a bit of a snow storm last night. Schools weren't canceled but quite a bit of snow came down. As you say it is getting more mild all the time. And I am so glad to have March here. February is such snowy and cold month most of the time. I am a sunshine person and need my natural vitamin D. I think that is why I feel so great in Florida. Now on to your next blog.
